Arguably cycling's most celebrated and masochistic event, the hour record is the longest distance cycled in one hour on a bicycle from a stationary start. Attempts to break the record date back to 1893 when it was first set by Henri Desgrange, the man who would go on to create and run the Tour de France. The only thing guaranteed when attempting this record is pain and suffering. In the words of Chris Boardman, “I’ve never had so much pain after a race...If I’d known how hard it would be, I would never have attempted it"
